Unlock Your Potential
The most meaningful moments of my work life occurred when I established a trusting relationship with an individual, helped them to recognize and develop their strengths, and watched as they progressed. I have done this as a public school teacher, manager, youth baseball coach, non-profit administrator, school district leader, and mentor. The common thread across these experiences is helping people to realize their potential so that they can enhance their contributions to the greater good.
This is why I coach. Unlike the roles above, as coach I am not the expert, advisor, or instructor. Instead, I stand firmly in the place of listener, companion, and mirror. My training and experience teach me that we all are wondrous souls, and I desire to help my clients discover their most authentic selves.
I have a profound passion for social justice, and I am learning to bring love, playfulness, and joy to that struggle. I have taught elementary and middle school, worked in two city governments, and contributed to the launch and implementation of multiple initiatives to improve the lives of marginalized students and their families. In my community work, I co-founded and led an educational advocacy coalition and a non-profit youth baseball organization.
I live in Harlem with my wife and two teenage sons. I’m a swimmer, youth baseball coach, and co-host of the Radial Bureaucrat podcast, where we explore the question of how to make positive change from within an institution.
I have received training and certifications as a coach from the Teleos Leadership Institute and Upbuild.
